FLORENCIO "JUN" M. BERNABE, JR.
MAYOR CITY OF PARAÑAQUE (2004 - PRESENT)

MAYOR Florencio M. Bernabe Jr. was born on Februa 1948 to Lourdes Mayuga Bernabe and Atty. Florencio V. Bernabe, Sr., who himself was the longest-tenured Mayor of Parañaque. Jun Bernabe studied elementary in St. Paul College and St. Andrew School of Parañaque and finished high school at Ateneo de Manila. He completed his Bachelor of Arts at De La Salle University and pursued further studies at the University of Asia and the Pacific where he earned his Masters Degree in Business Economics.
Being an active member of the business community and equally involved in charitable works before entering public service, Mayor Bernabe serve as president of Parañaque "Pambato" Jaycees and later became a Jaycee International Senator in 1991. He was hailed as the Most Outstanding President of Rotary International District 3810 in 1993 and capped his service at the Rotary International as chairman of the District Conference 2003.
He is an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Pagkabuhay Council 7147, Parish of Resurrection in BF Homes.
A long-time resident of Parañaque, Jun Bernabe lives in Barangay BF Homes with his wife Maria Fe "Girlie" Bernabe. Jun and Girlie have four children namely Jennifer Bernabe-Ko, M.D., a medical graduate of the University of Santo Tomas; Felicia Lulu Bernabe-Calleja, a graduate of Early Child Education at Assumption College; Florencio Benjamin Bernabe III, a Management graduate from DLSU; and Juan Carlos Bernabe who, apart forum his business management degree in the Philippines completed a culinary arts studies in London England.
Being a nature lover, Mayor Jun Bernabe enjoys spending time at his farm and playing golf in his spare time.
Prior to his stint in government service, he served as president of Berma Center (Shopping Mall); president of Spic ‘n Span Service Corp; chairman of the board of Amuvision Entertainment Inc., (cinema); president of Paradise Farm; and an outstanding member of the Parañaque Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Following his father's illustrious career and enjoying the popular mandate of his fellow-Parañaqueños, he was elected and served as City Vice-Mayor from 1998 through 2001 then re-elected and completed his second term from 2001 to 2004.
Having served the city and his constituents well, he posted a proven-track record as public servant. The increasing level of trust and confidence of the people in him paved the way for a win in the May 10, 2004 polls. He was re-elected City Mayor in the succeeding election in 2007, again by a landslide win.
Parañaque is now exuding in the pride and honor under his sterling and unblemished leadership as can be gleaned in his numerous projects and programs beneficial to the citizenry. To the appreciation and gratitude of the Parañaquenos, Hon. Mayor Florencio M. Bernabe, Jr. emerged as the people's choice in the recent May 2010 elections for his third term in service as the City Mayor.
Ignited economic activity and boosted investor confidence with business-friendly policies and legislations including Ordinance No. 014, series of 2007 declaring the Parañaque-part of the bay reclamation area as a Special Investment District (SID)
Provided skills training for citizens and generated jobs for the city's labor force. Once fully developed, the Entertainment City that is being built in the SID will provide 250,000 jobs
Improved revenue collection and settled the outstanding debts of the past administration
Ended the long-time garbage crisis left unresolved by the past administration
General renovation of the city hall; modern and air-conditioned Taxpayers, Assessor's, Business Permits and other service lounges
Computerization and networking of the EDP, BPLO, Treasurer's and Assessor's Offices
Biometric attendance system for city employees to prevent downtime, man-hour loss and spur greater employee efficiency and productivity which relates to better public service
Rehabilitated center island lamp posts and plant boxes for improved motoring safety
Maintained roads for convenient and safe travels; rip-rapped creeks to prevent erosion and flooding
Acquired specialized equipment such as the "Spider" backhoe-excavator for cleaning and widening of creeks to pre-empt floods and a dredging machine for the Parañaque River clean-up operations
Provided barangay government units with mini-dump trucks, ambulances and fire trucks
Donated new Hyundai H100 service vans to Parañaque public elementary and high schools
Provided the Parañaque PNP with patrol cars, squad motocycles, firearms, ammunition and communication equipment
Installed Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) in various parts of the city for traffic monitoring and crime prevention purposes
Donated fire trucks, patrol cars, fire fighting equipment, radio transceivers and personal protective gear to the Parañaque BFP
Built four new and modern school buildings in barangays where there used to be none
Built gymnasiums, multi-purpose halls, health centers, daycare centers and birthing facilities
Added a new wing to the Florencio V. Bernabe, Sr. Memorial Hospital and provided it with modern hospital equipment
Built a new multi- level building for the Parañaque PNP and BFP
Built a spacious and secure Parañaque City Jail for the humane treatment of inmates
An 8-storey Legislative Building and Hall of Justice is rising
Facilitated the expansion of Maynilad (MWSI) water services
Prioritized senior citizens and persons with disabilities in the extension of services
Improved the Early Childhood Care and Development Program and strengthened the Local Council for the Protection of Children
Enhanced social services for marginal citizens including the distribution of Philhealth cards
Expanded women's and children's desk services and established the Parañaque Bahay Aruga, a shelter for women victims of violence as well as abused and abandoned children
Implemented innovative programs and projects for youth and sports development
Strong implementation of R.A. 9003 though its "Garbage Volume Reduction Through Waste Segregation, Recycling and Composting Program"
Established 30 Gawad-Kalinga villages, the second highest number in the National Capital Region
The future holds more with project H.E.L.P.S. - Health; Education, Environment and Economic Prosperity; Livelihood and Livability; Peace and Order; Social Services, Socialized Housing; Sports and Youth Development

2011 International Awards for Liveable Cities (LivCom Awards) Bursary Award with £10,000 financial support for “Making Food Go Further: Mitigating Hunger and Ensuring Future Resilience and Stronger Households” (Project FRESH), a project the City Government of Parañaque with the Dept. of Education (DepEd) Parañaque Division of City Schools, in partnership with the Save the Children and Kraft Foods Philippines
2010 Emerging Local C.H.A.M.P. (Catalytic HIV and AIDS Mitigation Programme) Award under the Leadership for Effective and Sustained Responses to HIV and AIDS component implemented by the Local Government Academy (L.G.A.), the training arm of the Department of Interior and Local Government (D.I.LG.) and the United Nations Development Programme (U.N.D.P.)
2010 Urban Health Champion, awarded by the Urban H.E.A.R.T. Healthy Cities Initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Department of Health
2009 Galing Pook Award for Outstanding Local Governance in recognition of the city's innovative Adolescent-Friendly Reproductive Health Services (AFRHS)
